This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So, here we go with our 196th installment visiting with Scott Caldwell, owner of Caldwell Design and Engineering, which provides land development services such as site plans, grading plans, erosion control plans, TDOT access permits and TDEC permitting.
What is your background? I gained work experience as a drainage engineer for the city of Cleveland. Previously, I worked as a civil engineer for USACE, a Civil Site Designer (E.I.T.) for Ragan-Smith Associates, as well as working for Berry Engineers. I am involved with several organizations including ASCE – American Society of Civil Engineers and MOAA – Military Officers Association of America. I also served as a military officer in Iraq. I have experience in both commercial and residential site design and municipality design requirements.
Describe your customers. I work customers that have no knowledge of how to get their project started to experienced land developers that have many years of experience.
What impacts your business? In a perfect world, What I do is very simple. But the environment impacts every decision that you have to make. Asking questions: Is this project impacting the community in a positive way. Is this going to be beneficial to many. A lot of unknowns and how they are perceived. I just want to help people achieve their goals.
What do you enjoy most about your work? I get to see the finished project and know I had an impact in the process.
