The Engineering News-Record (ENR), a news outlet known as the authority for tracking the construction industry, has placed The Christman Company (Christman) at #88 on its 2020 “ENR 400” list of the top 400 contractors nationally, a jump from the company’s 2019 ranking of 93. Overall rankings were calculated according to 2019 construction revenue.
Christman also landed at #90 on the 2020 ENR list of Top 100 Contractors by New Contracts.

Significant projects from the company’s Knoxville office contributing to the top-contractors ranking include:
- Tennessee Technological University science lab; Cookeville, Tennessee; $80 million
- Tennessee State Veterans’ Home; Athens, Tennessee; $39 million
- Neyland Stadium improvements; Knoxville, Tennessee; $131.7 million
- University of Tennessee Energy and Environmental Science Research Building; Knoxville, Tennessee; $78 million
- East Brainerd Elementary School; Chattanooga, Tennessee; $18 million

Locally, The Christman Company has earned the top spot as the No. 1 general contractor in the Knoxville area for three years in a row based on local billings.
The Book of Lists, compiled by the News Sentinel, ranks the area’s companies in multiple industries, including construction, education, health care and technology. The Christman Company recorded 2018 revenue of $144,577,529 and 48 local employees. Significant and recent local projects include the 395,088-square-foot University of Tennessee Student Union and the State Street Garage expansion, which added 570 parking spaces in downtown Knoxville.
