On Monday, December 12th Second Harvest Food Bank, along with a conglomeration of East Tennessee media, will hold the annual Double-Your-Donation Day. Double Your Donation Day is a one-day telethon where donations to Second Harvest made between 6am and 7pm will be matched up to $200k by several anonymous contributors.

“With Double Your Donation Day, we hope to provide over 1,200,000 meals to the hungry in our community this winter. However, we won’t be able to meet the need without the help of our community,” said Elaine Streno, Second Harvest’s Executive Director.

Last year during Double Your Donation Day, the organization received donations from individuals and businesses that were matched by anonymous donors for a grand total of $440,629 — the largest fundraiser in Second Harvest’s history.

While the end of the year is a crucial time for the food bank, many fail to realize the importance of supporting Second Harvest entering the New Year. Because of the demand during the holidays, as well as the Sevier County Fires, Second Harvest’s shelves will be empty come January. Double Your Donation Day allows the food bank to focus on supporting over 500 non-profit partners without concern of low inventory.

To make a donation on December 12th, please visit www.secondharvestetn.org and click on the Double Your Donation banner at the top of the page, call the DYD telethon line at (865) 243-8227 or drop your donation off in person at 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville TN 37801. All donations made online that day will be doubled as well.
