Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee extends an invitation to all responders, volunteers and CSX employees for an appreciation luncheon on Friday, July 17th from 11am to 2pm in regards to the CSX train incident. Responders can enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by Second Harvest staff at their facilities, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville, TN 37801.

Second Harvest Executive Director Elaine Streno said, “The luncheon is just a small way we can extend our gratitude to the hard working and supportive individuals who helped Blount County and the affected organizations recover from the unexpected incident. Thanks to countless first responders, volunteers, CSX workers and the community, Second Harvest was up and running in a timely manner following the accident, and for that we are truly grateful.”

Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee along with other surrounding organizations were adversely affected by the CSX incident that occurred early on July 2nd. Second Harvest Food Bank distributes food to over 18 counties and feeds over 168,000 individuals monthly. With the closing of the organization during the incident, thousands of individuals were without food for extended periods of time.
