You’re invited to participate in a “Community Conversation” about community needs at the Blount County Public Library on Monday, August 26, at 7 p.m.  Wendy Wand, Community Impact Manager at United Way of Blount County, will lead the discussion.

United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, self-sufficiency and health.  These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income for a family to be self-sufficient through retirement, and good health.

The goal is to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.

Community Conversations are “kitchen” table discussions with staff, volunteers, and the community members in which the agency is affiliated in order to come to together with United Way representatives.  Community Conversations will allow for United Way to allocate resources to its community agencies where the members of Blount County best see the need or lack of resources in the area. The community conversation is strengthened only by residents of Blount County in an effort to create a community coalition instead of individualization.

Wendy Wand emphasizes, “We want to hear what real people have to say about the real problems they are faced with every day.”  United Way can only best serve its community members as long as they speak up for themselves. This survey and community conversation gives them that opportunity

Free and open to the public, the program is sponsored by the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.
