ALCOA, Tenn. – Alcoa Foundation is partnering with NatureBridge to send a group of students, ages 16 to 18 years old, from Alcoa communities around the globe to explore the wilderness at Yosemite National Park in California and Olympic National Park in Washington for two weeks this summer. During these trips, 54 students will have the opportunity to think like scientists and experience the wilderness as they backpack and sleep under the stars.

The NatureBridge Alcoa Scholars program is now accepting applications for its wilderness and environmental science knowledge adventure. The program offers a unique opportunity for students to learn and grow in one of our nation’s magnificent national parks.

Due to the great interest in last year’s program, Alcoa Foundation has renewed and expanded the partnership for 2015. The program is conducted by NatureBridge, a nonprofit that connects young people to the wonder of science and nature. While students from all countries are encouraged to apply, participants must be proficient in English as the application and program are delivered in English.

Alcoa Foundation scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of a student’s application and recommendation. The program will cover full program costs, including roundtrip international travel and passport and visa fees, if necessary. For more information about the Alcoa Scholars Program and to fill out an application, visit www.naturebridge.org/alcoascholars. The application period is open from March 1 to May 1. Alcoa Scholars will be announced on May 22.
