LeadingAge Tennessee has selected Nellie Cole, board chair for Asbury Place, as the recipient of its 2016 Excellence in Governance award.

The statewide honor recognizes Cole’s exceptional leadership and commitment to current and future residents, family members and employees of nonprofit Asbury Inc., operator of continuing care retirement communities in Maryville and Kingsport.

“Among many other contributions, Nellie effectively guided the board through two major decisions,” said Marjorie Shonnard, chief operating officer for Asbury Inc. “Those included a $27 million repositioning project related to the creation of resident-centered household model health care facilities at both our Maryville and Kingsport communities and an opportunity for Asbury Place to fully affiliate with its long-term management partner, Asbury Communities Inc.”

LeadingAge Tennessee, an association of communities and professionals, provides high-quality housing, health, community and related services for the elderly. Cole received the award at its awards luncheon Aug. 10 in Franklin, Tennessee.
