Asbury Place continuing care retirement community in Maryville recently held a preview and public tours for its recently constructed Household residences, an innovative, person-centered health care concept for older adults requiring long-term care.

Household residences combine beautiful living spaces with dedicated staff to create a culture of care focused on personal choice. Asbury Place is the first community in Tennessee to implement this model and will open Households this fall in both Maryville and Kingsport.

“In addition to residential living, assisted living and skilled nursing, Household residences are part of Asbury Place’s continued focus on making our community more comfortable, accommodating and enjoyable than ever,” said Carolyn Neil, health care administrator for Asbury Place. “These residences break down the traditional health care center into an environment that isn’t just like home, it is home.”

Residents have private suites and share common living spaces, such as a kitchen, dining and living rooms, and other indoor and outdoor spaces that people are accustomed to having in traditional homes. Each Household is continually staffed, and residents make their own decisions, such as when to get up, how to spend their day, when and what they eat, and when they go to bed.

“While our residences are beautiful, their difference is much more than aesthetic,” Neil said. “They intentionally combine architecture and redefined staff roles to create an innovative, long-term residential health care concept that is gaining national recognition in the industry through its transformation of traditional, institutional facilities into true homes.

“If someone you love needs long-term care or memory support, we encourage you to schedule a private tour of the homes and to discuss the Households model of care. Asbury Place is proud to be the first in the state to offer this groundbreaking concept.”

The $18.5 million project adds to the Maryville campus a long-term care Household with 22 suites and two memory support Households with 22 suites each for a total of 66 suites. In Kingsport, an $8 million expansion includes one 22-suite, long-term care Household. All Households will open this fall.
