Maryville, Tenn. – To meet the rising senior population’s needs in Blount County, the Blount County Community Action Agency (BCCAA) will hold a fundraiser to benefit Blount County seniors on Mon., July 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  All donations will be used to provide services through Meals on Wheels and other BCCAA programs that benefit seniors, including heating assistance and senior transportation.

The fundraiser will be held at the BCCAA office located at 3509 Tuckaleechee Pike in Maryville, with donations accepted by calling the BCCAA “Senior Hotline” at 865-724-1551.

Credit cards will be accepted and PayPal payments can be made via the BCCAA website, www.blountcaa.org.  Pledges will also be appreciated. All contributions will go directly to client services.

Due to funding constraints, BCCAA is able to meet only a fraction of the significant requests for services by Blount County seniors, so the event seeks to engage more community members in underwriting the costs of service and / or volunteering their time to help provide service to more local residents.  Meals on Wheels and BCCAA’s transportation program are recruiting volunteers through this event also.

Even as the senior population has grown in Blount County by more than 1.5 percentage points from 2009 to 2012 alone, funding to provide services to Blount seniors has remained the same while the costs of food, transportation and other support needs are growing.

By making a contribution to the fundraiser, residents will demonstrate their appreciation of Blount County seniors, Meals on Wheels, transportation services, Share the Warmth and other programs and assist BCCAA in its mission of promoting independence and self-sufficiency for these community members.

For more information, contact BCCAA’s Senior Nutrition Manager, (865) 983-8411 ext. 27.
