For the second year in a row, the Blount County Education Foundation is donating $100,000 to the county schools.
A ceremonial check presentation was made Friday, Sept. 9, before the football game between Heritage and William Blount high schools. Most of the money will be presented by the end of the month to the county’s 21 schools through minigrants, according to BCEF President Keith Troup.
“A lot of it is technology investments,” Troup said. “There’s a lot of Chromebooks.” Grants also will go to a variety of school programs, ranging from music to a 3D printer.
The nonprofit foundation, run by an all-volunteer board, was formed in 1990.
BCEF has two major fundraisers coming up. The foundation is still accepting sponsors and players for its Oct. 3 golf tournament at Green Meadow Country Club. For more information about the tournament contact Chris Smith at [email protected] or Lacee Campbell at [email protected].
