Thousands of people in Blount County willingly work together for the betterment of our community, and it’s not always for pay. So what better way to recognize these folks than to dedicate an entire day to them?

The 2nd Annual Blount County Volunteer Awareness Day will be held on Wednesday, April 1, and will be just that — a day to recognize the selfless individuals who donate their time and energy to make the community a better place. Whether it’s mentoring a teenager, delivering meals to the home bound or helping out at the animal shelter, this day is for you.

United Way of Blount County and Community Food Connection are two organizations that are excited to take part in this county-wide day of recognition. They ask that other nonprofit organizations and businesses let their volunteers and employees know that on this day, all volunteers in Blount County should wear a name tag and write those organizations with which they volunteer. It’s that simple.

“United Way of Blount County relies on the help of hundreds of amazing volunteers each year,” said Jennifer Wackerhagen, president and CEO. “We couldn’t do what we do without these people who form the backbone of our organization. We enjoyed participating last year and seeing everyone around town with their volunteer name tag on. What a great way to bring awareness about volunteerism.”

Volunteers wearing nametags are encouraged to snap a photo and upload it to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #VolunteerBlount. United Way will help share your photos! Photos may also be emailed to [email protected].
