Brain Teasers 2, the popular national traveling exhibit, opened this week at Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, providing visitors the opportunity to gain new appreciation for the brain and what it can do.  The exhibit contains 21 challenges for puzzle enthusiasts of all ages and is designed to sharpen problem-solving skills and provide plenty of fun. It is included in the Center’s admission price – $6 for adults, $4 for students and children under 17 (free for GSMHC members and children under 6 years.)

To solve the puzzles, visitors must use creative thinking and problem solving strategies such as looking for patterns, thinking ahead, setting aside pre-conceived ideas, and looking at problems from different perspectives. The brightly colored exhibit appeals to all ages and encourages parent-child interaction as family members team up to solve each puzzle.

“This exhibit has been brought to the Heritage Center through the generosity of the Clayton Bank,” Heritage Center board member Carl Koella said this week. “The Clayton family has a long history of supporting education, and this is a fine example of that commitment.”

The exhibit is produced and toured by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, Oregon.

Volunteers and staff at the Heritage Center have been using their brain power to ‘test drive’ the puzzles set up in the Center’s Transportation Gallery. Laughter and exclamations of “I did it” coming from the gallery are indicative of the fun Brain Teasers 2 provide those daring enough to try each puzzle.

The Heritage Center is located between the Townsend traffic light and the national park entrance, on Scenic Highway 73.  For more information, call 865-448-0044.
