Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is partnering with MEDIC Regional Blood Center during the month of February to help those suffering from hunger.

From February 1 through the 28, when blood donors opt-out of receiving a t-shirt, MEDIC will donate the money saved to Second Harvest. Each shirt declined will provide eight meals to the hungry in East Tennessee.

The blood drive comes a critical time for both organizations. The need for blood in MEDIC’s service area is continually increasing, and every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. Additionally, Second Harvest is in critical need of donations during the cold winter months and the staff is working hard to make sure those in need have enough to eat.

“The partnership with MEDIC Regional Blood Center is a great opportunity for our community to double their impact on helping those in need. Not only will each blood donation help save the lives of 3 people, but the 8 meals donated to Second Harvest will help feed the hungry in our 18 county service area,” said Elaine Streno, Executive Director of Second Harvest.

To participate in the Second Harvest and MEDIC blood drive, visit any MEDIC Blood donation center or MEDIC MOBILE and opt-out of receiving a t-shirt following your donation. You can also visit the MEDIC MOBILE on February 10th from 10am to 4pm at Second Harvest Food Bank, located at 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville, TN 37801.
