Alcoa, Tenn. – Hickory Construction, Inc. is set to begin construction on the Brookdale Sandy Springs Senior Living Facility, formerly Sterling House, in Maryville.

The $5 million project, scheduled to break ground mid- to late-September, consists of an expansion to the current facility, as well as the addition of a new memory care facility on the site. The 14,848-square-foot addition will have 14 new bedrooms, an updated dining room and nurse call stations. Currently, Brookdale Sandy Springs is a single-story building with private apartments.

Hickory will also construct Clare Bridge, an entirely new 24,772-square-foot memory care facility that will include 32 units, a court yard, dining room and a space for administration work.

PDC Midwest is the Design-Build firm leading this project for Alterra Healthcare Corporation. Both companies are based out of Milwaukee and have chosen to work with a local contractor.

“It allows us to continue to serve and provide our community with top quality construction, as well as directly benefit the local economy,” the Vice President of Hickory Construction Ben Pinnell said.

The completion of both the expansion and the new building will serve as a prototype in Alterra Healthcare Corporation’s Program MAX, a project dedicated to best utilizing the land and property for the assisted living facilities, as well as creating more assets and increased revenue from the properties.

Hickory Construction will be collaborating with Alterra Healthcare Corporation as well as PDC Midwest, Inc., which will provide on-staff architects and the architectural plans for Program MAX.

The completion of the project involving the Sterling House Facility and the Clare Bridge memory care facility building will take approximately 12 months.

Brookdale Sandy Springs is located at 511 Pearson Springs Road in Maryville.
