My name is Lisa Johnson and I am the manager at The Lily Barn in Townsend, TN. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you and your garden club members to our very special event on May 1st, 2016 as we welcome Ila Hatter, a well known native plant expert and forager, to our Lily Barn Gardens.
Ila is an interpretive naturalist, artist and wildcrafter who has taught the cultural heritage of native plants for over 30 years. She has appeared on CNN, NBC and A&E, TurnerSouth, National PBS and on UNC-TV “Folkways.” Ila produced a series of videos, “Wild Edibles and Medicinals of Southern Appalachia” and “Mountain Kitchen”. She is the editor/publisher of “Roadside Rambles” a wild foods cookbook, and editor of “Plants of the Cherokee.” Ila is a recipient of the Achievement in cultural Preservation award from NC State University and an instructor at John C. Campbell Folk School.
Ms. Hatter will be leading a walk through the garden and speaking on “Wildflower Folklore”, followed by “The Mad Hatter High Tea” and a talk on “May Day Traditions” in the Lily Barn Pavilion. Although the talk and tour are free of charge there will be a nominal $10.00 fee for Ms. Hatter’s High Tea that features goodies made with our native plants! This is a great opportunity to spend an interesting and fun afternoon with friends and family!
We would love to see you at our May Day Celebration at the Lily Barn Gardens to help us kick off our new educational series. If you are unable to attend, we hope you will come visit our beautiful gardens during the 2016 season. We have many more events scheduled, with guest speakers, book signings, garden talks and tours and hands on planting classes. Make your plans to join us soon and have a wonderful year ahead. If you have questions, comments or would like to book your own event with us please contact me at: (865)-766-9307. Tickets for this event are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Lily Barn Office at: (865)-448-8697.
