King University will host an open house on Wednesday, May 14 from 4-6 p.m. at the University’s Knoxville campus located at The Village at Hardin Valley at 10950 Spring Bluff Way, Knoxville, Tenn. The open house will highlight King’s new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. The DNP program will host its first classes beginning fall 2014.
“King University is specifically targeting master’s prepared nurse educators in the greater Knoxville area and surrounding localities for this special event,” says Cecelia Lynn Holden, DNP, MEd, MSN, RN, CEN, dean and associate professor for King University’s School of Nursing. “The DNP program was designed by highly experienced nurse educators for nurse educators in academic and health care settings. The part-time, two classes per semester is ideal for the full-time educator. We are extremely proud of the DNP program and look forward to sharing with prospective students our vision of preparing nurses at an advanced level to evaluate and translate research while improving health care outcomes.”
The DNP program at King University is a practice-focused platform and offers the terminal degree in nursing practice. The DNP contributes to the expansion of knowledge underlying advanced professional nursing practice. King’s DNP program places considerable emphasis on specific DNP essential knowledge development such as translation of research into practice, evaluation of interdisciplinary teamwork for performance excellence, and dissemination of new knowledge for outcomes improvement. The program was designed using the Essential of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice specified by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
The May 14 open house event will provide an opportunity to meet one-on-one with faculty, financial aid counselors, admissions representatives, career center counselors, and tour King’s recently expanded Knoxville campus.
King’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program, part of the University’s Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) programs, is designed with the working nurse in mind. The program is a blended format of both online and on-site courses. For the on-site portion of the program, students will attend three colloquia at King’s Hardin Valley campus in Knoxville, Tenn. Graduates of the DNP program will be prepared to assume advanced nursing practice roles in the areas of administration, education, practice, quality, informatics, practitioner, entrepreneurship, and more.
