MARYVILLE, Tenn. – A weekend of family entertainment comes to downtown Maryville as the city presents Summer on Broadway June 27-28. The area will be hopping with live music, the smell of BBQ and many activities designed to bring out families to enjoy the summertime together.
The weekend is highlighted by the state BBQ championship and the area’s first Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned cook-off.
Festivities begin Friday evening with the Last Friday Artwalk and concludes later that night with an outdoor movie. There will be many other activities, music, beverages and food presented by local merchants.
With the sweet smell of BBQ smoke wafting over downtown, Saturday morning kicks-off at 7 a.m. as the Maryville Farmer’s Markets will be open at Founder’s Park featuring local vendors and farmers. The market has fresh vegetables, fruits, potted bedding plants, herbs, honey, eggs, and more from East Tennessee growers. Music enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the local music scene with hours of outdoor music beginning at 9 a.m.
Also on Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m., teams from throughout the Southeast will come together for the 2014 Big BBQ Bash at Founder’s Square. It serves as a qualifier for the American Royal Barbecue Cook-Off and Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue.
