As this week marks spring break for many area students, getting outside and enjoying the warmer weather is likely to be on the agenda for many local families.

“Spring is such a beautiful time to get away for a day trip with your friends or family,” said Kim Mitchell, Blount Partnership director of tourism. “The nice thing about having the Peaceful Side of the Smokies in our backyard is that there’s truly something for everyone to do at a moment’s notice.”

Whether it’s hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback riding, golfing, fishing or taking a driving tour, there are options for visitors of all ages and interests. For history buffs, several historical sites and museums are located throughout the area.

“It’s important to take a break from work and school, plus planning for spring break doesn’t have to feel overwhelming,” said Mitchell. “Day trips are a great solution to get refreshed and try something new. The transition from winter to spring is spectacular in areas like Cades Coves. Who needs the beach with the Smokies in your back yard?”

Located south of Knoxville in East Tennessee, Blount County ranks eighth in the state for economic impact on tourism with $76 million annually in payroll tax and $10.5 million in local sales tax.

The Peaceful Side of the Smokies is home to some 75 local businesses in the hospitality industry, including resorts, restaurants, museums and other attractions.
