As Patient Safety Awareness Week kicks off, Rural/Metro of East Tennessee announces a recent addition to its services to keep individuals safe.

Rural/Metro invested in a Stryker Stair-PRO, which makes transporting patients safer for both emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and patients. The chairs provide breakthrough stairway mobility previously unavailable, as well as enables operators to move patients up and down stairs without lifting, significantly reducing the risk of operator injury.

Rural/Metro purchased three of these stair chairs for its Blount County operations.

“Everyone in the health care process can make a difference in patient safety,” said Erin Downey, regional director of operations for Rural/Metro of East Tennessee. “Our main purpose is keeping the community safe, and with the addition of the Stryker Stair-PRO chairs, we’re able to provide better and safer mobility for our patients and employees.”

Each year, health care organizations around the world honor Patient Safety Awareness Week, an annual education and awareness campaign for health care safety led by the National Patient Safety Foundation. The theme for 2015 is “United in Safety,” further demonstrating how everyone in the health care field plays a role in delivering safe care.

Rural/Metro is the largest emergency service provider in East Tennessee, and has served Blount County for more than 30 years.
