South Blount County Utility District (SBCUD) was joined by County Leadership, Representatives, local businesses, friends, and family on Tuesday, June 15th to celebrate the grand opening of the district’s new customer service and operations center.

South Blount spent nearly 50 years serving the community from what many know as their original location on West Lamar Alexander Parkway. In 2018 discussions began on the need for expansion, the county was growing by leaps and bounds and to keep up with the pace, the utility needed room to grow. Construction on the 21,000-sf warehouse and 11,000-sf operations center began in November 2019 and was completed in December 2020. “When we look forward to the future it is important to reflect on the past and the vision our leaders had in creating the utility over 60 years ago…This new Customer Service Center and Warehouse, along with the additional acreage allows the vision of South Blount that originated decades ago, to continue for future generations.” Said Virginia Morton, SBCUD Board President during a brief speech to attendees at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“We are devoted to remaining good stewards of the district’s money so that our customers and future generations reap the rewards”. said A.L. Scott, district manager. Smart investing and judicious planning have allowed the district to keep rates stable since 2013, with no increase on the horizon. The utility district operates on the principle of proactively planning for today, to be prepared for tomorrow, the new customer service and operations center is a key piece of the preparation and planning for the future of water service for the residents of Blount County.
