MARYVILLE, Tenn. – South Blount County Utility District, provider of clean drinking water to more than 14,000 homes, businesses and schools in Blount County, announced it has received an “Approved” rating from the State of Tennessee’s Department of Environment Conservation in its Sanitary Survey of Community Water Systems.
In order to obtain the Approved rating, water suppliers must achieve a 95 or better percent ranking, on a 1-100 sliding scale. South Blount County Utility District received a rating of 99 percent.
“The South Blount County Utility District management and staff are commended for the outstanding maintenance of the water plant and distribution system,” said Greg Simcox from the Knoxville Field Office Division of Water Resources in a letter to the utility provider.
The water system has 16,275 connections and distributes to an estimated population of 40,688.
“This is further validation that we are providing the best quality water supply to the Blount County community,” said A.L. Scott, assistant manager at South Blount County Utility District. “The service of providing quality tap water is often taken for granted when we turn on our faucet in our homes, but we can tell you from experience it is no easy task to provide this quality service. We are proud to provide the greatest natural resource, at the highest level of quality, to our community.”
In 2013, South Blount County Utility district received a rating of 100 on the survey. The survey is part of the Tennessee Safe Drinking Water Act, and is conducted by the Division of Water Resources.
