Spectra Recycling Inc. President Steve Dixon announced today that Spectra Recycling has purchase SP Fiber Recycling of Knoxville.
This is an exciting expansion for Spectra which will help enhance and expand our services. Spectra paid an undisclosed amount of cash for SP. All SP employees were offered continued employment with Spectra. Spectra will formally commence operations of the Knoxville Hoitt Avenue facility this week.
The Spectra Group is privately owned and has been based in Blount County for over 20 years. The combined business services over 1000 customers in the area. Customers who have questions about the change may call the Knoxville facility at 865-523-6397 or corporate offices at 865-970-0005.
Spectra is the only full service recycling company in the Knoxville SMA that offers recycling of Oils, Chemicals, Electronics, Plastics, Metals, Papers and Cardboard. In addition to Spectra’s newly acquired facility in Knoxville they also operate two facilities in Blount County. Spectra Recycling provides collection service in a ten county area. They are the only private recycling company in the area that provides all forms of collection services, including carts, front load dumpsters, roll offs, tankers and dry vans. Spectra Recycling does not provide residential services but do service public collection centers. These sites use a “Dual Stream” collection process which provides a higher quality of recycled materials with less waste than single stream collection.
Mr. Dixon said the Knoxville Hoitt Avenue facility will primarily be a paper and cardboard processing plant. They will continue to purchase material from the public on site or provide containers and pick up service. Spectra’s Maryville facility on Brookdale will focus on fluids, petroleum and chemicals while the Jackson Drive facility will process plastics, electronics, metals and household hazardous waste.
Spectra makes a special effort to supply U.S. mills and not ship materials overseas. The high quality of their recovered materials from the dual stream process is preferred by the US mills they supply.
The Spectra Group provides environmental services in a 17 state area. Services include hazardous and tanker transporting, remediation work, industrial services and parts washers. Their primary customers are retailers, manufacturing, government facilities and other environmental companies.
Spectra has also recently expanded into commercial waste collection in Blount County.
