Royal Treasury, Eagleton Middle School’s in-school branch, in association with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, hosted a canned food drive at EMS. The can drive began on November 1st and ran through November 17th. At the EMS and Heritage Middle basketball game each person who donated at least 3 cans to the game received free admission. The goal was to collect at least 1000 cans and if the goal was achieved one lucky student would get to “pie the principal”, Tony Shultz. The students and faculty exceeded their goal with a total of 1118 cans, enough food to feed a family of four for 70 days.
Since the goal was exceeded, one additional student and one faculty member were chosen to also “pie” Assistant Principal Job Isles and School Resource Officer, Mike Coppenger. Mr. Shultz spoke at the school assembly and shared how proud he was of the student and faculty contributions to help those in need in the community.
Royal Treasury is one of 12 student-run branches by Y-12 Federal Credit Union. Since 2009 thousands of students have had the opportunity to open credit union accounts, learn about establishing good financial habits, and gained hands-on experience working as volunteer Member Service Consultants.
