This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So, here we go with our 203rd installment visiting with Jordan Simmons, President/Principal of First Light Insurance Group which is an independent brokerage with access to dozens of insurance carriers. They offer home, auto, life, umbrella, small and medium size business and large commercial package policies.

How did you get started? I met with a number of other insurance agents and through that process decided this was an industry that would be perfect for me. I was encouraged by my mentors that being an independent broker was the best way to provide my clients with the best option possible.

What is your background? LOTS of training. Also, I am fortunate to have three mentors that I meet with and call on a regular basis for guidance.

Describe your customers: Any person or business that owns or leases assets or property. I work with customers on the personal insurance side primarily with home and auto (as well as other assets). On the commercial side, I work with a number of different businesses, but primarily my niche is with commercial facility service contractors.

What are three things you wish you knew when you started? 1.) All of the things I have learned through experience up to this point! 2.) A long list of people I wish I would have met sooner. 3.) More case studies of complicated claims situations.

What do you enjoy most about your business? What I love most of all is getting to run a business that is completely centered around my values.
