This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So, here we go with our 190th installment visiting with attorney Tara Lynn Dutton from the TL Dutton Law firm which is full service law firm that is licensed in multiple areas including commercial and residential real estate closings.

Describe more about what you do? TL Dutton Law is a full service law firm that handles legal matters, including but not limited to, estate planning, probate administration, business law, business entity formation, real estate law, collections, uncontested divorces, and dispute resolution. We also have a division that handles commercial and residential real estate closings, which is Professional Title.

How did you get started? Almost thirty years ago, I joined a real estate law firm in Hilton Head Island, SC as an associate attorney. I learned the entire process of handling real estate closings and analyzing title work. Since my concentration in my third year of law school was estate planning, probate administration, and the tax matters associated therewith, I broadened the practice area of that law firm by also offering those services to clients.

What is your background? Many, many years of practicing law in the above mentioned areas and having started my own businesses from the ground up in South Carolina and in Tennessee.

What are three things you knew when you started? 1. Being called ‘counselor’ truly is the predominant nature of the legal industry; 2. How society would ultimately change the nature of doing business as a professional; 3. How technological advances would only create more immediate demand and less free time for a business owner than what was promised.
