KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On Monday, July 29th, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced that the west alignment shift at the southern end of the Preferred Alternative has been selected for the Pellissippi Parkway Extension (State Route 162) project in Blount County.
Maryville, Tenn. – To meet the rising senior population’s needs in Blount County, the Blount County Community Action Agency (BCCAA) will hold a fundraiser to benefit Blount County seniors on Mon., July 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All donations will be used to provide services through Meals on Wheels and other BCCAA programs that benefit seniors, including heating assistance and senior transportation.
Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center has announced two opportunities to see the Smokies play at home in August, on Saturday, Aug. 17 versus the Chattanooga Lookouts and again on Saturday, Aug. 24 versus the Mobile BayBears. Both games begin at 6:15 p.m. at Smokies Park.
BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University will host an information session for Graduate & Professional Studies and Online Programs (GPS) degree options including Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses (RN-BSN) programs on Wednesday, July 24 at Pellissippi State Community College’s (PSCC) Blount County campus in Friendsville, Tenn. Sessions will be available from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in room 146.
Maryville, Tenn. – The New Hope – Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center board of directors announced Thursday that Executive Director Trudy Hughes has accepted a new position with the East Tennessee Foundation in Knoxville. Hughes will start her new position as director of regional development at the East Tennessee Foundation in August 2013.

Moments before, Maryville College President Dr. William T. “Tom” Bogart announced news of the award to members the Physical Plant Department who had gathered for a breakfast in their honor.
The Clayton Center for the Arts is once again planning for the popular annual Community Theatre Festival, which will take place from August 2-4. All five shows can be seen for $40 for adults and $25 for children, which will cover the entire weekend of theatre performances. Individual tickets for each show are $15 for adults and $10 for children. The tickets can be purchased through the Clayton Center for the Arts Box Office at 865-981-8590. Online purchases are only an option for individual tickets; the weekend passes must be purchased via the box office. The Festival schedule can be found on the Clayton Center for the Arts website: www.claytonartscenter.com. The festival will open with food and music in the Foyer.
